Riding School

A Lifestyle

We are faced with challenge after challenge today. Both in the classroom and at the workplace. Make a  change for yourself or your child. Come and enjoy a stress-free environment here at Broadlands where the fun never ends. We cater mainly for the rider who wants to enjoy the outdoors, exercise and keep fit and improve his or her muscle tone.

Physical benefits of horse riding

Horse riding is a great form of exercise which has both cardiovascular and muscle conditioning benefits. Although it may seem as though the rider is not engaging in any physical exercise, an hour’s activity can burn similar calories to that of a 30-minute jog (6mph) or cycle ride (9mph). Therefore, all the health benefits associated with engaging in regular cardiovascular exercise are gained.

After your first ride you may feel muscles that you never knew you had. This is due to the movement of the horse and its affect on the rider during the ride. As the rider reacts to the horse’s movements to avoid becoming off balance, the deep postural muscles of the trunk and pelvis and the adductor muscles of the thighs are continuously being conditioned.

Psychological benefits of horse riding

Horse riding is recognised as having excellent therapeutic qualities. The psychological benefits can be of equal importance to riders as the physical benefits.

Simply being outdoors and enjoying the countryside will boost your general well-being and act as a great stress buster. There is a real sense of exhilaration and freedom when you ride, a feeling that is second to none.

Furthermore, developing a relationship and sense of trust between yourself and your horse is highly rewarding. Learning to control and care for an animal much larger than yourself can have a profound affect on your confidence and is a great feeling.

We operate on the same basis as schools. We ride for 4 terms in a year and your or your child’s riding sessions run in line with the Limpopo school academic terms. During the school holidays we know that many go on vacation, and for those that remain at home we offer adventure programmes and camps.

You are able to sign up for a discounted lump sum term rate alternatively the monthly package that is suitable for you and your family. The club system allows us to charge you a monthly rate calculated over an average riding year, rather than an increased individual lesson rate. Monthly fees are payable 12 months of the year.

Please will you read carefully through our rules and conditions; as well as general information relating to our Riding Centre. All rules made are in the interest of the safety of our riders, and are enforced at the yard. We request that you also complete our application forms, (riding school and stabling if applicable), so that we can maintain accurate and complete records.

Kind Regards,

Lynne Cocks
